I am now living in a single house with exact same facing. Nowadays I don't have to turn on any light for kitchen and family room until 5:30pm. Starting March until November, my kitchen and family room will be so bright that absolutely no light needs to be turned on there until we finish dinner. Not only this saves our electricity bill a lot, it makes us feel much happier after work.
How about the summer hot which supposed to be brought by West facing windows? Far less a concern than we thought because: 1) Late sunlight is never too hot and afternoon sunrays from higher angles will always be blocked by 屋檐; 2) With very flexible cellular blinds, we can block whatever amount of sunlight as we wish.
Many local homeowners actually prefer West or NW facing houses. I've lived in "ideal" SE facing townhouses before, but will never want to experience again the dark kitchen after work, or the much slow melting of snow and ice in the driveway.
