An elderly woman was found dead after an early-morning fire at a Bancroft retirement home.
The OPP reports that officers responded at about 4:02 a.m. Thursday to the home on Alice Street in the town about 200 km west of Ottawa.
The cause of the fire at the R.J. Brooks Centre isn’t yet known but police said that the fire department and officers of the province’s fire marshal and chief coroner are helping with the investigation.
The victim won’t be identified until her family is notified of her death.
Residents of the centre were taken to the nearby Bancroft Bible Chapel.
Investigators are asking concerned family members to check on loved ones at the chapel instead of going to the fire scene.
