One of Ottawa’s best-known car dealership chains has been sold.

The Mierins Automotive Group has agreed to sell 10 of its 11 dealerships and two collision centres to Alpha Auto Group of Toronto for an undisclosed price.

It brings to an end a family tradition that began 60 years ago, although co-presidents Lisa and Arnie Mierins will stay on during a transition period of about one year. The flagship Mercedes-Benz dealership, Ogilvie Motors on St. Laurent Boulevard, is not included in this sale.

Among the dealerships to be transferred are Camco Acura on Carling Avenue and Civic Motors (Honda), as well BMW, Honda, Lexus, Subaru, Toyoa and Mini brands, with locations mostly in Ottawa but including Brockville and Kingston. The new business will have some 13 brands and 20 dealerships.

The new owners will keep the 550 employees and seniority and benefits will be maintained, according to a news release Friday morning.

“Our employees are our family and our communities are our home,” said a prepared statement from Lisa and Arnie Mierins. “It means a lot to us to have found a buyer who shares our values and will continue the legacy that our father and our family established over sixty years ago.”
