A Kingston police officer is nursing a sore forehead after being punched by an allegedly drunk cyclist Monday evening.
Police were called at about 7 p.m. for a report of a man who’d fallen off his bike. When they arrived, they found the man riding his bicycle erratically on a downtown sidewalk.
Officers determined the cyclist was a risk to himself and others, but when when officers told the man that he was being arrested for public intoxication, he started to yell and attempted to resist arrest by pulling away.
Police said the man then threw a punch that missed one officer but struck the other in the forehead.
The officers used force to handcuff the man but he continued to resist and started to spit at and bite the officers. He continued to be aggressive and belligerent on the drive to headquarters, police said.
As well as public intoxication, the 23-year-old Kingston man has been charged with assaulting police and breaching his probation.
