Things should get quieter over the next couple of months for people living under the main north-south flight paths for Ottawa International Airport.
As part of the airport’s taxiway reconstruction project, north-south runway 14/32 will be closed between May 22 and early August.
Almost all commercial aviation will be diverted to the east-west 07/25 runway, meaning “communities to the north and south of the airport will have virtually no traffic during the construction.”
An exception will be two daily departures that require the extra length of runway 14/32.
Areas east and west of the airport will notice increased activity, but runway 7/25 is already the most-used strip at the airport, so the increase is expected to be minimal.
The reconstruction project includes installation of a short-approach lighting system that will improve visibility for pilots landing on runway 14. Work also includes installation of runway pavement sensors, weather station system upgrades, as well as reconstruction of taxiways Juliet and Echo.
Anyone with a question or concern can call the airport’s noise complaint line at 613-248-2023.
