Repairs on damages caused by a downtown watermain break on Tuesday are expected to drag into late Wednesday afternoon, the City of Ottawa says.

Commuters are reminded O’Connor Street is closed between Laurier Avenue and Lisgar Street, Nepean Street is closed at O’Connor Street and converted to two-way traffic between Bank and O’Connor streets, and O’Connor and Metcalfe streets. There are lane reductions on Slater Street between O’Connor and Elgin streets.

Pedestrian and bicycle traffic on O’Connor Street is not affected.

The repairs are are complicated due to the configuration of gas, telecom and hydro utilities at the intersection, water distribution manager Carol Hall said in a release.

“City of Ottawa crews are working closely with partners to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” she said.

The break in the 16-inch watermain Tuesday morning as routine repairs were underway flooded the intersection and washed away underlying soil and roadbed.

I swear this is the first time this has happened. Just let me have a 20min nap and I'll be good to go again #ottnews #otttraffic https://t.co/r8vYsBMgcK
