A Kingston police officer was poked with a used hypodermic needle Wednesday while trying to find help for a naked man wandering a west-end path who then fled the hospital before his blood could be tested.
It happened at about noon Wednesday when police responded to a report of a naked male on a walking path behind Blackburn Mews near the intersection of Gardiners Road and Taylor Kidd Boulevard.
When police turned up, the 27-year-old man had donned a pair of pants but as officers awaited help from a community agency an officer was poked with a needle in a pocket.
The man was at first cooperative and went with police to have blood drawn for analysis but when they left the hospital, he fled before the bloodwork could be completed.
Meanwhile, police learned that he was on probation and had approached a bystander and had been spotted fondling himself while wandering the path naked for about 30 minutes.
He was collared downtown at about 3:15 p.m. and taken to the police station for a bail hearing Thursday on charges including committing an indecent act, and breach of probation.
