Thursday is the last, soggy gasp before the heat wave is here for the long weekend.
After Wednesday night’s drizzle, there’s a 60 per cent chance of more showers and a high of 26 C that will feel like 33 C. The UV index is 4 or moderate. Throw open your windows as skies clear and the mercury dips to 17 C overnight.
Friday’s forecast is for mainly sunny skies with a high of 31 C and Humidex of 35 C and a UV index of 9 or very high. Overnight, expect cloudy skies and a low of 18 C.
Then it’s the “extreme heat event” Environment Canada has been warning us about as hot, humid air sweeps in from the Gulf of Mexico bringing daytime highs in the mid-30s, Humidex calues in the mid-40s and overnight lows above 20 C bringing little relief.
“There is still uncertainty regarding when the heat event will come to an end,” the agency warns in a special weather statement. “Current indications suggest the heat could persist into the middle of next week.
“This will likely be the most significant heat event of the season thus far.”
For Saturday, expect mixed skies, a high of 32 C and a low of 23 C.
Canada Day is forecast to feature a mix of sun and cloud, a high of 36 C and a low of 24 C.
Monday is a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers, a high of 33 C and a low of 21 C.
Both Tuesday and Wednesday’s forecasts are for mixed skies and a high of 33 C.
Saturday?Tuesday is forecast to be #Ottawa's longest heat wave in 7 years. #OttWx

So, I'm not built for high 40s Celsius with the humidex. Going to live in my basement this weekend. #ottweather
