Ottawa - The City’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee today recommended delegating authority to the Director of Planning Services to sever three clusters of provincially held lands.

The three sites are in Cumberland Ward and each includes several lots. Within each site, however, the land titles for the individual lots have all merged because the land all belongs to one owner. The land titles have also merged with neighbouring hydro corridors and, in one case, with Highway 417, all of which are also owned by the Province.

The Government of Ontario has requested consent from the City to re-establish individual lots within each cluster, and to separate them from the highway and hydro corridors. Once severed, the Province plans to sell the lands to the Algonquins of Ontario.

Items from today’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee meeting requiring City Council approval will go to Council on Wednesday, September 12.
