Essential Functions:
Network Engineering Services (NES) is established to provide and improve service in the areas of network design and network installation. Other areas of service include network vendor management, hardware life cycle management and participation in Service Restoration Teams as required. These services are provided to CSC clients (internal and external) for voice, data and video networks. Duties include Installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and tuning of enterprise networking equipment such as routers, bridges, gateways, switches, concentrators, and hubs. Performing problem determination, resolution, and testing for multi-protocol routed LAN/WAN environments. Performing network analysis and capacity planning. Interfacing with local and national carrier services in regards to bandwidth specification, provisioning, and problem analysis
Essential Knowledge:
The applicant must have experience in router installation, configuration, and operation to include the creation of access lists and filters. The applicant must possess a thorough understanding of standard and proprietary routing protocols. Must have knowledge in debugging problems related to the following communications protocols: TCP/IP, RIP2, OSPF, BGP Must have excellent troubleshooting skills related to the following network architectures: Ethernet, Fast-E/Gigabit, VPN, ISDN, Frame Relay, T1/T3, ATM. Possess working practical knowledge of all cabling technologies associated with the above. Experience in the installation, configuration, and operation of Ethernet switches and routers.
Essential Education:
BS/BA in Computer Sciences or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 4 years of directly related experience. Cisco network certifications a plus (CCNA, CCNP, or CCDP)
Essential Skills:
Must be a self-starter and be able to use own judgment/initiative to undertake activities with minimal supervision. Must have the ability to provide complex LAN/WAN problem resolution. Must also have experience working with various network equipment vendors in providing problem resolution and root cause analysis after problems have been resolved. Possess excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to work alone or within a team environment.
Organizational "Fit" Considerations:
Must be flexible, have ability to work as a team leader, and be a team player. Ability to prioritize projects and/or tasks. Some projects may require weekend or off hours work for implementation and testing. During major outages, the candidate must be willing to work alone or within a team environment until the problem is resolved. This may or may not be during the normally scheduled on-call duty. Position may require 20% travel to remote client locations.
