The deadline to file or withdraw a nomination for the Office of City Councillor in the 2025 Osgoode By-election is Friday, May 2, 2025, at 2 pm.

Nomination process for candidates

Nomination forms must be filed by the candidate or by an agent acting on the candidate’s behalf, in person, at the City of Ottawa’s Elections Office (1221 B Cyrville Rd) by 2 pm on May 2.

Prospective candidates or their agents are encouraged to schedule an appointment to file their nomination forms and may contact the City of Ottawa’s Elections Office by phone at 613-580-2660 or by email at elections@ottawa.ca in order to do so.

To run for the Office of City Councillor for Ward 20 Osgoode, eligible individuals must:

  1. File a completed Nomination Paper - Form 1.
  2. File a completed Endorsement of Nomination - Form 2 (this includes a declaration of qualification from at least 25 eligible electors endorsing their nomination).
  3. Pay a filing fee of $100 when filing their nomination forms (by cash, debit, credit card, certified cheque or money order).

Withdrawal of nomination

Candidates may withdraw their nomination by submitting a written withdrawal that includes their original signature by 2 pm on May 2. The written withdrawal must be submitted in person at the Elections Office by the candidate or their agent.

Candidate nomination certification

Following the close of the nomination period on May 2, the City Clerk will examine each nomination that has been filed to ensure it meets the requirements of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, and if satisfied, will certify the nomination on or before Monday, May 5, 2025. The list of certified candidates will be available on ottawa.ca/vote.

Registration process and deadline for third party advertisers

An Ontario resident, corporation or trade union may register as a third party advertiser in person at the Elections Office by Friday, June 13, 2025, at 4:30 pm.

To register as a third party advertiser in the 2025 Osgoode By-election, eligible persons or entities must:

  1. File a completed Notice of Registration - Third Party - Form 7.
  2. File a completed declaration of qualification signed by the individual or by a representative of the corporation or trade union, as the case may be.
  3. Provide proof of identity.
