A not-so-new fad is to store the addresses to your favorite Web sites on the Web itself. This allows you to find those sites easily from any computer. It also makes sense for someone who uses more than one computer (one at work, one at home, maybe a laptop).

BookmarkBridge v0.60 Beta [2.7M] W9x/2k/XP FREE
http://bookmarkbridge.sourceforge.net/
{Share bookmarks between multiple browsers} Most of you probably
have huge Bookmarks / Favorites files, and it's tough to keep them
all straight - especially when you use multiple browsers. I try to
put all links into one bookmark file, but then I succumb to other
browsers and bookmark them there, too. Bridge the bookmarks
together with BookmarkBridge, a small program for sharing
bookmarks between Internet Explorer, Mozilla, and Opera. To use
it, be sure your browsers are closed before running the program to
synchronize the bookmarks between browsers. When I merged the two
files, I got errors. To get past the error, I went to the source
bookmark file and put an "ignore" (meaning it won't be included in
the merged file) on the item that caused the error. (It probably
didn't like the punctuation I used in the bookmark name.) Once I
got through all the errors, though, the two files merged into one.
The help file is thorough and its features are simple. [Meryl]

Quick Favorites Search v4.3.2 [30k] W9x/2k/XP
http://chris.id.au/qfs/default.htm
{Search Favorites or Bookmarks} This literally! tiny tool searches
your Favorites and Bookmarks files for Internet Explorer, Opera,
Netscape Navigator, and Mozilla. Actually, there's no mention of
Mozilla, but I tested it and it worked. If you have multiple
Favorites or Bookmarks, this tool can quickly search them all and
produce the results. Click each link one time and it tells you
what browser the URL came from. Click "-" to launch the URL in the
Web browser, click "+" to copy it to the clipboard, or hit Esc to
go back to the search box. The program doesn't even do anything to
the registry. Just unzip it and file it where you want to keep it.
When running the program, you get a little search box and a button
labeled "Pref." This is where the preferences can be changed, and
where you can tell the program where the Bookmarks are located.
Favorites are auto-detected, but you have to enter the others. I
entered Mozilla into the Netscape box. Preferences can also be
entered into the search box using strings as listed on the
program's accompanying HTML file. This doesn't solve the problem
I've been having with Bookmarks (although I didn't expect it to).
Whenever I "Search for Bookmark" and see duplicates, I want to
delete it from the search results page in Mozilla. It can't be
done like the in old versions of Netscape. The only way to delete
a URL, to my knowledge, is to find it in its folder and delete it
from there, or by going through the tedious task of opening and
editing the HTML file. Be proud if you have a big Bookmarks /
Favorite file, and use this to help you find what you need instead
of weeding it out. [Meryl]

Use msn explorer, when u have this browser and you add it to ur favourites it gets stored in the server so if you use in ur home or in ur office the same bookmarks get updated there automatically

I'm using different browsers already (Phoenix/Firebird at the moment), so the last thing I need is another browser, and definatly no MicroSoft browser
I've ended up using
www.linkagogo.com, which has a really simple & fast webbased interface to display the bookmarks with tree & detail views. It also allows you to import from ANY type of browser (Opera, IE, Netscape...) and export it again if needed. Most of the other services don't support less known browser like Opera.
thanx for your time though,
see ya

SIDEBAR.
I am using IE ver 6, which allows me to EXPORT my Favorites file.
Which means I can copy in from a different file -- into my basic file --
and then I can IMPORT the updated file back into Favorites.
Check your BROWSER file menu -- where it says Export and Import -- that's what I use. (I have two servers.)
Yes, it was a hassle getting them in step at first -- NOW, it's a piece of cake. I make my run on server one, export the file to "URL file 1" and then import that file into my browser before going to server 2. Likewise, when I'm done on 2, export and import. Note I'm always working with an updated file!
Of course doing the first file was rough -- exported into different files, then used a pair of small windows side by side and updated ONE file which I then imported into both servers.

I'm using Mozilla Firebird at home, so that IE export trick won't float there
www.LinkaGoGo.com is what I use now, I only had to import all my links from work & home once into it, and from now on I add all new links directly to my online bookmarks, so it's always up to date,
it's just brilliant really, and easy to use,
in the 3 months that I've been using it, it has never given me any problems whatsoever

doesn't look bad, but these are a few features LinkaGoGo has that I couldn't miss anymore
- search your links on keywords
- adding hyperlinks directly to your online bookmarks with a single click on a shortcut on your browser itself (link, description and keywords are automatically retrieved from the actual webpages meta and headertags)
- customizable view (listview, columns, whatever)
- customizable portal page, where you can add picture-links to your most used sites (images can be automatically selected from images grabbed from the site itself)
- import & export in various formats, and compatible with various browsers

The absolute best bookmark manager I have come across (and it's completely free) is Backflip, which you can find at the following address:
http://www.backflip.com/login.ihtml
Once entered, you have your own Yahoo-like search directory, accessible from any computer. You can organise your own folders with whatever headings you like, and you can choose either private mode (ie only you can get in with a password) or publish your links so that others can view them in a public directory (but they can't edit them obviously). I have published several hundred folders with thousands of links through Backflip and I've found the service invaluable. You can also import a copy of your links to your hard disk, and there is an optional button which you can fit in your browser toolbar to automatically save a site in Backflip.

I went looking!!!
I've just joined this site, and I am a real search engine junkie - usually if I can't find it, it's not there.
But do have a look at the site if you haven't already found another bookmark manager. I've looked at a few of them, and this one seems the most nicely set out, even if it is a little slow to load.

well I tried a few in the beginning, and most of them where very limited when it came to importing bookmarks (I was using Opera at the time), and though they had nice layouts etc, they where also quite limited in how they could represent your bookmarks if you had a lot of 'em,
finally I came across
http://www.linkagogo.com which doesn't look very fancy, but has soo much features and different views, I was hooked right away,
btw, as a search engine junkie you might like to know that linkagogo allows you to search your link database in a google-like fashion, searching URL's, keywords (automatically retrieved from the actual websites itself) and whatever data you specified extra

Thanks. Just clicked on your link and it looks great. I'll pop that url in my search directory as well. Always glad to find new and useful links!
You're right about importing, however. I had about 10,000 links in an Access database (because it got way too unmanageable to keep in favourites), and I'm literally doing it all manually. With that amount, it has taken months. I believe you can import from favourites, but I ended up with so many in there that I had to put them in folders and subfolders, which got a bit difficult.
Tried out a couple of other ones recommended in Australian NetGuide (gorgeous little magazine full of fantastic useful urls and other stuff), but they were just treelike structures, and only had room for the url, not a title or description. No good once you get past a few hundred links.
After publishing some 700-odd folders to my public directory, I keep hoping they're not going to say, 'Hey, that's way too much for a free service', but so far so good. (PS i've added over 200 search engines in one folder on my Backflip site, all personally tried by me - I am WAY far gone!!!)
