兼容问题

这个问题比较general, 就不给specs了。
我的老硬盘（三年，maxtor ata 133, 7200rpm）放入新机器（新board, ram, cpu), 如果作为primary master 的话， OS 起来不了， 如果作为slave的话， 新硬盘的os 可以启动并发现老硬盘。

我猜想问题可能老硬盘速度慢了？但为什么作为slave又可以被发现呢? 或者是老硬盘和新board不太兼容？新board应该会考虑backward compatability 吧？
难道是老硬盘的boot区？

换主板要重装OS,当然起不来.不是你硬盘的问题.

i have the same problem ,i use same harddisk,
i install fedora 1 at home,
and took to school and format the disk install red hat 8.0
and took home when after boot.fedora came up,then i took to school
after boot red hat came up..very funny why?

you confuses me, is it because you didn't erase the previous bootloader?

是不是老硬盘不知道新board的chipset layout? 所以必须要重装OS?

i have win2k installed on my cd caddy,it worked at home also inthe school.

Most new motherboard CMOS default select mode is "Cable select" or "CS" printed in some HD, this mode needs 80 pin cable and related CMOS supported,

my suggestions:

1. first check you HD mode jump setting.
2. double check your old and new computer connection cable.
3. make sure the bootable HD should be First Master or Second Master.
