HONG KONG, 15 Nov 2004 - Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., China’s largest telecommunications vendor, today announced the global launch of commercially ready-for-market UMTS devices at the 3G World Congress & Exhibition in Hong Kong. With the launch of the three types of commercially marketable series terminal UMTS products, Huawei is the first producer of 3G handset in China.
The 3G products will be put into batch production in February 2005. Orders are being accepted now and the company plans to put out the 3G mobile phones with PTT function in the second quarter of next year. Huawei plans to further expand its investment in 3G terminal development and accelerate the introduction of other related products. As one of the world’s mainstream communication equipment suppliers, Huawei already possesses the remarkable capability accumulated over many years. It also has a dedicated marketing network spread across the globe to promote the products.
“Huawei Technologies’ breakthrough in the 3G market with these 3G terminal products is significant as it shows the industry that we have moved beyond our role of a supplier of communications system equipment,” said Xu Zhijun, executive vice president of Huawei Technologies. “Huawei now offers a brand new choice to 3G operators and mobile subscribers throughout the world.”
The 3G standard is an important milestone in the development of global communications industry, showing the shift from the traditional single services concept to the futuristic multiple services concept characterized by diversification, individualization and multi-media.
“SUNDAY is very pleased to be partner with Huawei Technologies to demonstrate its commitment to launch 3G in Hong Kong in 2005,” said Bruce Hicks, Group Managing Director of SUNDAY Communications Limited. “We congratulate Huawei on the launch of the three types of 3G terminal products. I remain convinced that SUNDAY’s partnership with Huawei will ultimately deliver among the world’s most advanced mobile multimedia services when we launch in Hong Kong in 2005.”
Huawei’s rigorous IPD, CMM quality management procedures and methodology delivers carrier-class product quality to the terminal industry. With the development of electric circuit base on chips, the mastery of key technology in large quantities, and the additional strict cost management, allows Huawei to provide customers with higher cost performance terminal products.
“Huawei is one of China’s most respected companies and a key telecommunications player in the worldwide wireless market,” said Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, executive vice president and president of QUALCOMM Wireless and Internet Group. “With world-class technologies and solutions based on WCDMA and CDMA2000, Huawei is playing an important role in international 3G CDMA development. We will continue to work closely with Huawei to drive the success of 3G globally and in China.”
E600: UMTS/GPRS/GSM data card, can provide wireless Internet surfing with the downlink speed of 384K bps, and uplink 128K bps. It can also facilitate speech conversation while surfing the Internet, making it most convenient for business travelers.
