Hi, how do you: .3ds--> .max?

Hi all:
Does anyone know how to convert .3ds files to .max files for the 3ds max 7? Because i found all these cool 3D models (in .3ds extention) but i cannot use them for 3ds max 7 (where .max files are required) does anyone know how to edit .3ds files in 3ds max 7 or how to convert .3ds files into .max files?
