server HD problem-

谁能帮我想个最好的办法?

Our small company’s server recently runs out of space. The server HD was originally configured like a personal computer. So the C: drive almost full.


Like the image shows, the disk0 is a basic disk, I want to install a new o/s server to a new HD (and use the whole disk as C) and use tape backup the original whole disk0, can I restore the tape backup to that new HD? Or is there any better way to solve the problem?

Note: IBM xSeries Server with hot-swapable HD.

我的意思是: 新装一个SERVER前,我得把旧的backup,用tape backup.
新装的SERVER将是用另外一块硬盘, 不分区,用整个HD 做C盘.
如此后, 我可不可以用旧的那个backup tape把我的新系统恢复到旧系统原本模样? 这样一来我以后就可以再挂几快硬盘,然后采用ServeRAID programs to define and configure the disk-array system.
我担心还原系统会否成功,因为曾见过有文章说还原到不同的HD时必须两者都是同样的配置同样大小.我这里明摆着不是同样了.

没接触过BACKUP TAPE,但是无论备份到什么介质上,都应该有相应的备份和还原软件来做这些事,象大家常用的 NORTON GHOST,是可以以最短的时间把把你的新系统恢复到旧系统原本模样.

ghost好象必须同样大的硬盘空间

先用管理工具,设定个逻辑盘符(可保证加上新盘后,盘符不会乱,但不要指定C盘),作文件系统备份.要用原系统盘在新盘上装好,在覆盖上你的备份,应该可以.

move the data out from D and E to the new places.
remove the partitions: D and E.
extend C to the whole disk.

be careful.Before do that. backup everything on the tape.


Keep in mind that only put the system on C not the programes.

Great! I prefer DELLPowerEdge 2800 too.
Comparing with IBM's Xseries, Dell PowerEdge 's has better price and better configurable choice. But we alyways want to save some money so I am also considering to add an Expantion unit for another RAID configuration disk array. In this way I can lower the cost and avoid to build a brand new server.

应该不行，好像要修改一些文件！硬盘换了，并且分区也发生了变化，操作系统护找不着启动分区(至少nt,2k 是这样的！）
