As a Chinese-Canadian, I find this article very biased.
I myself am not a history expert, but I have experienced the 1989 conflict myself and have lost friends and family from the Vietnam war. The 1989 conflict was regrettable, we blamed our government for that but its non of other countries' business!! We didn't offend and should not be offending any other country by putting this out of our textbooks.
And the war between China and Vietnam was totally different from the Japan/China war. We fought Vietnam to PROTECT the property that ALREADY BELONGS TO US. Even though many lifes were lost from both armys, the only people that were killed were the soldiers, we did not kill civilians. We fought to defend our territory, unlike the Japanese who tried to take over other countries by slaughtering thousands of unarmed, innocent civilians.
As for the India/China conflict, I shall not say anything about that matter since I haven't been there and I'm not exactly sure about what happened.

Dear CNN:
Do we know about these "facts"? Yes, and surprisingly, a large number of Chinese DO know about the supposedly covered up stories. Non one is trying to DENY what happened. So much for your attempt to discredit CCP.
The famine caused by the reckless expansionism happened when Chinese worshipped Mao Zedong as a god. That has changed, and Chinese have changed their views on certain events that happened in that period. 6/4 event was definitely regrettable and I will not try to justify the actions our government took which were obviously wrong. Funny thing is though, even when Chinese government has been taking their steps toward democracy since then, the Western world responds with political hostility. (And no, most of the Chinese do not regard the ousting of Fa *** Gong to be in-humanitarian. It was a cult organisation that was bound to cause social instability due to the very nature of the idol worshipping system it adopted. Having seen what blatant lies these "truthful, innocent and tolerant" people are capable of, I for one am extremely glad the Chinese government made Fa *** Gong illegal.)

Having said that, I find your logic to be quite awful. To counter the accusations by Chinese people toward the Japanese whitewashing of historical facts, "Chinese whitewashing" was "revealed"... what was your purpose? To show that Chinese government is no better off than the Japanese in the lying department? Are you trying to persuade your readers that us Chinese should stay quiet to Japan's lies because our government lied to us? I seriously fail to see how that is remotely logical... Also, maybe I should remind you of what the Japanese did to my hometown - ever heard of the Nanjing Massacre? 300,000 CIVILIANS ruthelessly packed up and slaughtered like lambs within 13 days of occupation. Now if that is not a crime against humanity that you like to talk about so much, i don't know what is. Did Japan ever apologize for what it did? I think not. Did they even try to ACKNOWLEDGE what they did? I think not. Did they try to discredit their war criminals? No. As a matter of fact, they made a shrine and put the criminals in so that they could be memorized as HEROES.

Is my rage justified? I don't care. One thing is for sure - before Japanese officials kneel down like their German counterpart did, and begged for forgiveness - Chinese will never have a real peaceful and benefiting relationship with the Japanese.
