*********BIG NEWS!! international students could work off campus now!!!!

Canada Now Hiring - International College Students
TORONTO, April 18 /CNW/ - The College Student Alliance (CSA) applaud the
Federal government for today's announcement by the Honourable Joseph Volpe,
Minister of Citizenship and Immigration to expand two pilot initiatives for
international students to allow them to work off-campus while studying in
Canada.
"Today's announcement is great and long overdue since our international
students have had their ability to financially support their postsecondary
education hindered by not being able to legally work off-campus," said Kerrie
McQuaig, President of the CSA. "It is no secret that some international
students studying in Ontario have been forced to work illegally for wages
below the minimum wage in order to make ends meet. We are pleased to see our
lobbying efforts didn't fall on deaf ears."
In addition to allowing international students to work off-campus while
they complete their studies, these reforms will also allow them to remain and
work in Canada for up to two years after graduation.
"Currently in Ontario's colleges, international students face higher
costs of education compared to those of domestic students. When tuition fees,
ancillary fees, additional health insurance, and living expenses are all taken
into consideration, an international student studying at an Ontario college
can easily spend over $16,000 per academic year," McQuaig said. "These new
initiatives will open doors and create opportunities for international
students to enhance their Canadian experience while gaining valuable
international work experience."

The College Student Alliance (CSA) is an advocacy and services
organization which has been proudly serving Ontario's college students since
1967. The CSA currently represents 17 colleges and 25 student councils with
over 110,000 full-time student members throughout the province.

大家还是静等消息吧。不要make rush decisions. 这是今天卡尔顿大学国际学生advisotry发的EMAIL相信很多人都收到了吧。

Dear International Students:

I know that by now many if not all of you have heard about Citizenship
and
Immigration's announcement yesterday regarding two main issues: 1)
off-campus employment and 2) the extension of the Post-Graduate Work
Experience program to two years (with the exception of Montreal,
Toronto
and Vancouver).

While this is very exciting news, to date we do not have the details as
to
how or when this will take affect and therefore, I will use this e-list
to
communicate the information to you as I receive it. Many of you have
already asked if you will be able to work off-campus this summer and at
this time, I don't have an answer for you. Yesterday's announcement
only
indicated the intention to see this happen, we were not provided with
any
details as to procedures and time-lines. As I know this, I will
certainly
keep you informed.

In the meantime, let's hope that this happens quickly, it's very
exciting
and I'm sure you are all very anxious about the prospect of interacting
with Canada in a new and different way!

Laura
