I am planning to apply for U.S visa for my parents. My parents are Canada immigrants (they have landed for 3 to 4 months). They are currently living in Canada with my brother who has canadian citizenship.

I have been working in US for around 10 months now. I have a canadian citizenship with a working permit in US which expires at the end of 2005. But I should not have any problem in renewing it.

My question is, while applying US Visa for my parents,

1. will it have negative impact if they say that they will visit their daughter (it is me) who is living in US at current time? My concern is that the officer might think they have immigrant tendency if they know they have a daughter currently working in US.

2. I heard that it is easy to have tourist visa approved. But how long the applicant can stay in US for this kind of visa? I plan to have them stay in US for 2-3 months before sending them back.

3. which visa should have a better success rate? tourist one or the family reunion one?

Anyone has any case studies? I do appreciate any information that you could provide. Thanks!

I am not sure whether my experience will help for your case. When I first applied for my US visa (B1/B2) I was told I should apply for it after I had been landed for at least 6 months. I have a friend in States and I just wanted to visit her. That was about 2 months after I landed.

You said it is easy to get a tourist visa. But I think that is for those parents who visits their kids but not for landed immigrants. Especially the visa officers may believe your parents will "illegally" stay in States because they have a daughter working there.

This is only my personal opinions. Good Luck.

Many thanks for the info!

Do you mean that you got rejected in your first application? It looks like that it is tougher for the immigrants to get the US visa, am I correct?

Plus, what if they did not mention me in their application? Will the officer find out?

I can read/write Chinese, my native language very well, but I can only type in English since I do not have Chinese input software. Please feel free to reply in Chinese, if it is more comfortable for you.

Thanks again!
