BARRHAVEN mother is fearing the worst after her 18-year-old daughter went missing after her shift at a fast food restaurant early Thursday morning.

Ottawa police were asking for public help last night in finding Jennifer Teague, who went missing after she worked the closing shift at Wendy's Restaurant at Barrhaven Town Centre.

Her mother, Jean Teague, said her daughter was working until about 12:30 a.m. when she met girlfriends Lydia Dobson and Alicia Blais at a nearby grocery store.

She was last seen in the area of Jockvale and Tartan roads around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Both teens said there was nothing unusual about the conversation.

"She told me she had to go home to go to school," said Blais, 19. "She said 'I'll call you when I come home from school.' "

'FEISTY' TEEN

Jean Teague said her daughter isn't suicidal, depressed or on any medication.

"She would phone me. If she could, she would phone me," she said.

Jennifer's best friend, Amy Picknell, 19, agreed.

"This is so strange because this is not like her and I just know something bad has happened to her," she said, adding the two teens talk at least "10 times a day."

Picknell said her friend would never get in a car with a stranger.

"She's feisty. She's the type of girl that would fight back," Picknell said.

While police haven't uncovered any evidence of foul play, investigators haven't found anything that would explain her disappearance.

"That's one of the reasons why we have taken such an active interest," Ottawa police Det. William Barlow said. "She's just a normal high school student."

Barlow said police were not searching the area where she disappeared last night. Instead, his unit was focusing on contacting anyone she knows.

Last night, Jennifer's friends were handing out flyers in the Barrhaven area. Her father and older brothers, Kevin and Carey, were also helping with search efforts.

Visibly shaken, her co-workers were baffled by her disappearance.

"She was skipping around the kitchen," supervisor Pat Atchison said, noting workers aren't allowed to take the bus home alone when the restaurant closes. "She hasn't missed a shift in months."

Jennifer's co-worker Szilvia Szaraz said the teen was unhappy about working so many late shifts because of the start of the school year. The Elizabeth Wynwood Alternative High School student didn't show up for class Thursday.

Jennifer is described as a white girl, with a thin, fit build. She's about 5-ft.-4, 106 lbs. and has blue eyes, shoulder-length, straight dyed dark brown hair.

She was last seen carrying a backpack with her Wendy's uniform inside. She was wearing light blue jeans, a white tank top, red shoes and a black zip-up velveteen type sweater.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Barlow at 236-1222, ext. 5115.

Human Remains Discovered in West End
Police Trying to Determine if Body is Jennifer Teague
Sunday, September 18, 2005 5:08 PM

Ottawa Police are working to identify a decomposed body found on an N-C-C path near Moodie Drive Sunday afternoon.

An off-duty police officer discovered the human remains while walking along the densely wooded area with his family.

The body was discovered roughly five kilometres from where Jennifer Teague was last seen walking home from work in the early morning hours of September 8th.

Staff Sgt. Monique Ackland says investigators can't "discard the possibility it could be Jennifer."

Ackland says investigators can't confirm yet if the body is male or female or how long it may have been there: "You can understand that in view of the situation we are living presently, all efforts will be done to identify this person as soon as possible."

Major Crime Investigators have notified the parents of Teague in the event that this discovery is connected to the disappearance of their daughter.

The body was discovered along the National Capital Commission trail in the west end. An N-C-C spokesperson says they have stepped up patrols and surveillance along paths since Jennifer disappeared on September 8th.

Jennifer was last seen by two friends walking home from work.

A six-day extensive ground search was called-on in Barrhaven on Thursday after investigators found no trace of the missing teen. More than 100 officers conducted a land and air search of a two kilometre area.

Major Crime Investigators have spent the weekend pouring over more than 400 tips in the case. Investigators also went door to door in Barrhaven requesting entrance into people's homes to look for clues.

Police have setup a command post and closed Moodie Dr. as a forensics team investigates.

Moodie Drive between Fallowfield Rd and West Hunt Club will be closed to traffic until further notice due to the Police investigation.

Jennifer Teague Found Dead
Police identify remains as those of missing teen
Monday, September 19, 2005 3:46 PM

It's the news that no one wanted to hear: a body found off Kiln Trail on Moodie Drive, is that of missing 18-year-old Jennifer Teague.

Ottawa Police Staff Sergeant Monique Ackland confirmed the find just before 3pm this afternoon.

Police say that the teen's body was identified by the Center of Forensic Sciences in Toronto through dental records.

Jennifer Teague was reported missing at 1:30 a.m. Thursday September 8th.

The cause of death has not been determined.

Police say extensive forensic tests will be conducted and it may take weeks to get any answers that may lead them to Jennifer's killer.

The Major Crime and Forensic Teams will concentrate their search along Moodie Drive and some areas leading back to Barrhaven where she was last seen.

The decomposed body was found Sunday afternoon by an off-duty police officer while he was walking along the densely wooded area with his family.

The body was discovered roughly five kilometres from where Jennifer Teague was last seen walking home from work in the early morning hours of September 8th.

Police do say they have no reason to link this case to the disappearance and murder of Ardeth Wood in the east end more than two years ago, but neither can they deny they may be dealing with a serial killer.

Police Step Up Hunt for Jennifer's Killer
Report says Trace Evidence Found at the Scene
Wednesday, September 21, 2005 1:55 AM

Ottawa Police continue to question Jennifer Teague's friends, family and acquaintances in the hunt for her killer.

Major Crime Investigators say they have received more than 700 tips since the 18 year old woman was reported missing September 8th.

Jennifer's body was discovered along an N-C-C bike path off Moodie Drive on Sunday.

A report says detectives have uncovered trace evidence around the area where her body was found. Trace evidence includes hair, fingerprints, shoe prints and tire marks.

Police say forensic testing could take weeks to determine how Jennifer was killed and how long her body was lying on the ground.

On Monday Staff Sgt. Monique Ackland would not say whether the body was found clothed or the cause of death: "The body has been there for some time, it's impossible to determine the amount of time" at this stage in the investigation.

Jennifer Teague was last seen in the early morning hours of September 8th while walking home from work.

A six-day extensive land and air search of a two kilometre zone of Barrhaven failed to find any clues or leads into her disappearance.

Officers spent the weekend going door to door in Barrhaven requesting entrance into people's homes to look for clues.

Ottawa Police insist they have not identified any suspects or persons of interest in connection with Jennifer's murder.

Ottawa Police say they have no reason to believe at this time there is a link between Jennifer's murder and the 2003 death of Ardeth Wood.

The 27-year-old woman was abducted and killed along an NCC bike path in the east-end in August 2003. Police are still looking for her killer.

A Grieving Father Speaks
Ed Teague begs for killer or killers to turn themselves in
Wednesday, September 21, 2005 2:41 PM

Ed Teague spoke Wednesday for the first time since the remains of his daughter Jennifer were found Sunday.

"She loved kids", an emotional Teague said, "And maybe she may have been an early childhood educator, but that will never happen."

The body at the Stony Swamp Conservation Area was confirmed to be that of his 18-year-old daughter Jennifer on Monday by forensic investigators using dental records.

Teague also offered some advice for parents of teenage children. He said "Love them, never let a day go by, that you don't let them know you love them. And do everything you can to protect them."

Teague is calling on the person or persons responsible for his daughters murder to turn themselves in to police.

"One day there will come a knock to your door, or some day your car will be pulled over," he said, "and the case will be solved."

The grieving father is confident that the case will be solved and police will be able to track down the killer or killers.

"We will bring these people, or person to justice and it will be a fitting justice, I'm sure."

Ottawa Police insist they have not identified any suspects or persons of interest in connection with Jennifer's murder and they are not linking the case to the 2003 murder of 27-year old Ardeth Wood.

Police are still asking anyone with information in the case to call Major Crime investigators at 236-1222, ext. 5477. A special email has been set up at infojennifer@ottawa.police.ca.
