BARRHAVEN mother is fearing the worst after her 18-year-old daughter went missing after her shift at a fast food restaurant early Thursday morning.
Ottawa police were asking for public help last night in finding Jennifer Teague, who went missing after she worked the closing shift at Wendy's Restaurant at Barrhaven Town Centre.
Her mother, Jean Teague, said her daughter was working until about 12:30 a.m. when she met girlfriends Lydia Dobson and Alicia Blais at a nearby grocery store.
She was last seen in the area of Jockvale and Tartan roads around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Both teens said there was nothing unusual about the conversation.
"She told me she had to go home to go to school," said Blais, 19. "She said 'I'll call you when I come home from school.' "
'FEISTY' TEEN
Jean Teague said her daughter isn't suicidal, depressed or on any medication.
"She would phone me. If she could, she would phone me," she said.
Jennifer's best friend, Amy Picknell, 19, agreed.
"This is so strange because this is not like her and I just know something bad has happened to her," she said, adding the two teens talk at least "10 times a day."
Picknell said her friend would never get in a car with a stranger.
"She's feisty. She's the type of girl that would fight back," Picknell said.
While police haven't uncovered any evidence of foul play, investigators haven't found anything that would explain her disappearance.
"That's one of the reasons why we have taken such an active interest," Ottawa police Det. William Barlow said. "She's just a normal high school student."
Barlow said police were not searching the area where she disappeared last night. Instead, his unit was focusing on contacting anyone she knows.
Last night, Jennifer's friends were handing out flyers in the Barrhaven area. Her father and older brothers, Kevin and Carey, were also helping with search efforts.
Visibly shaken, her co-workers were baffled by her disappearance.
"She was skipping around the kitchen," supervisor Pat Atchison said, noting workers aren't allowed to take the bus home alone when the restaurant closes. "She hasn't missed a shift in months."
Jennifer's co-worker Szilvia Szaraz said the teen was unhappy about working so many late shifts because of the start of the school year. The Elizabeth Wynwood Alternative High School student didn't show up for class Thursday.
Jennifer is described as a white girl, with a thin, fit build. She's about 5-ft.-4, 106 lbs. and has blue eyes, shoulder-length, straight dyed dark brown hair.
She was last seen carrying a backpack with her Wendy's uniform inside. She was wearing light blue jeans, a white tank top, red shoes and a black zip-up velveteen type sweater.
Anyone with information is asked to phone Barlow at 236-1222, ext. 5115.
