Transit strike set for Monday morning
By Ottawa Business Journal Staff
Fri, Dec 2, 2005 8:00 AM EST
Ottawa commuters are in for a big headache Monday, unless there's a last-minute agreement between OC Transpo management and the Amalgamated Transit Union.
Amalgamated Transit Union president Bob Simpson says there will be a strike Monday if a new contract agreement isn't in place.
Mr. Simpson says wages, working conditions and benefits remain stumbling blocks to an agreement.
The union has told its members to report to work as usual early Monday morning, but be prepared to set up picket lines. Information sheets advise members to contact their bank managers, purchase any needed medicine, and prepare their families for a strike.
It's not yet known if the two sides will continue negotiations through the weekend.
