Dear folks,
Happy Chinese New Year! At a time when many Chinese oversea and in China arecelebrating this special time of the year, I'd like to also share a piece of information with you about how we can make a difference in our lives.
For those ofyou from China, you probably know about the devastating difference between urban and rural areas of China. In many rural areas, economical development is still far behind and children have very little opportunity to receive good education.
The following program is organized by a friend of mine. I am hoping you can consider this opportunity yourself and/or forward the message to anyone you know who may be interested. It is required that the participant speaks Mandarin, but monetary donations are also accepted from anyone who wants to help. Donations can be made on
the website and are federal tax-deductible.
I personally joined the volunteer teaching team last summer. We had 16 volunteers from abroad, and more than eighty domestic volunteers. We were divided into nine teams going to different parts of China. In my team, we had nine volunteers. I felt great to share my knowledge with the village students.
We also had good talks with the villagers. Their kindness and hospitality were very touching. I know our efforts are limited. We certainly cannot expect that our volunteer teaching would bring much difference in rural China, but at least we can do something influencing people around us. Detailed information about this organization please refer to the forwarded message below.
Thank you very much for your consideration, and good luck with your new year!
