My friends organized a FIFA World Cup pool that would start with the 'Round of 16' and go the Finals on July 9.
Here is how it would work:
**************************
1. You must pick the winner of the 'Round of 16' games.
(The link of Round of 16 is here: http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/w/bracket.html)
2. You then have to use those 8 teams you have picked to win in the next round, and so on to the finals.
3. You get 3 points for each correct pick in the 'Round of 16", 5 points for each correct pick in the quarter-finals, 10 point for each correct pick in the semi-finals, and 15 points for picking the winner of the final game. As a tie-breaker you must pick the win score of the final game. (In addition, the time of the first goal of the final game could also be used as the second indicator for the tie-breaker)
4. All picks would have to be submitted prior to 9:30am Saturday, June 24, 2006 (before the first game of round of 16 starts).
Cost to enter would be $10.00 per entry - yes, you can enter more than one entry in the pool if you like.
The winner of the pool will get 60% of the total pool, second place will get 25%, and third place will get 15%.
If the total pool is $150.00 the prize break-down would be:
First - $90.00
Second - $37.50
Third - $22.50
********************************************
Here are the winners I picked for the round of 16:
Germany, Argentina, England, Portugal, Italy, Brazil, Spain, and ? (the last one could not be decided until tonight, but I would pick Korea if they are qualified today).
The Quarter Final winners: Argentina, England, Brazil and ? (I need to see the results of today's matches for the last one).
The semi-final winners: Argentina and Brazil
The final: Brazil beats Argentina by 3:1, and the first goal would be in around 18 minutes of the first half.
I think we can set up a FIFA pool with 100 CFC money per entry here by putting down your prediction of the final results before Tomorrow 9:00 am (any post with a modification after 9:00 am June 24 will be disqualified automatically, i.e. you can not change your pick-ups after the deadline). We can first donate our CFC money into a trust account (I recommend Riven), and we also need a referee to update results timely, and announce the pool winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd places) at the final. Who is willing to take the referee job?
Let us have fun and see who has the highest marks. Go Brazil go!
