This is a very good question, and thanks for raising it.
Actually I had a similar question but not quite the same a couple of years ago. My question was why so many or so high percentage of Chinese behave the way (or think the way) you described. I think it's one of the questions that deserve to be looked into.
I noticed a couple of people were trying hard to portrait that profanity, personal attacks, intolerance, bigotry, narrow-mindedness etc. are just part of normal reality common everywhere on the Internet. One of them was even trying to say the civilized forums are rare and only "specialized or academic" ones, LOL... Actually it is not. The reality is quite opposite from what these couple of people are trying to mislead. I am not saying there are absolutely no profanity etc on other sites, but if you compare CFC with other sites especially with those English sites in terms of the concentration, the high frequency and the percentage of people engaged in this type of activities, you will definitely see the huge difference.
Let me give you an example. From time to time my web search takes me to a forum or a public blog site and often I'll take a quick look at the place. Over the years I have been to many forums or blog sites this way. I have never seen anything quite like what's been going on on CFC. If you don't believe me, just go to other sites to see for yourself. These sites are not so called "specialized or academic" sites, for example, Yahoo's discussion or interest groups, MSN, Google's newsgroups, 5 US networks (PBS, NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN) or CBC in Canada and so on. It's just too many to list.
Now the question remains 为什么在论坛里总有那么多的攻击漫骂？ Or my question: why so many or so high percentage of Chinese behave the way?

no. the answer is us. we were not educated to respect other people's opinions. We are used to unanimous voice, any opponent has to be eliminated. we are selfish, arrogant and rude.
