Suppose I set up a party called Devils Party. To win an election, we agree to recognize Tibetans as a nation to win their support, recognize Mongolians as a nation to win their support and let Taiwan decide its own future (assuming Taiwan is already taken back by China) to win their support. Though Devils Party might win the election, it wins at the expense of the interest of China as a nation.
