Desktop Computer Support
CS-2
This is a nine month term position from the date of reporting.
This position is being advertised internally and externally simultaneously; however, first consideration will be given to internal applicants.

Your Challenge
Under the general direction of the Manager of Software Engineering of the Flight Research Laboratory, the incumbent will be responsible for providing desktop computer software and hardware support and for the management of network resources. He/she will be responsible for troubleshooting computer hardware and software problems and user support of desktop computer hardware, software and NRC corporate applications.

Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates.

Education
Technical college diploma in computer science or a related field, or relevant combination of training and experience. Microsoft certification in systems engineering for workstations and servers.

Experience
Experience in the area of desktop computer support with experience in:
Providing desktop computer user support. Providing support to mobile users. Specifying and purchasing of desktop computer systems and servers appropriate to users and lab needs. Installing and configuring PC desktop and server hardware, including upgrades and repairs. Installing, configuring and managing desktop and server operating systems (experience with NT4.0 and Windows 2000 is required). Installing and configuring applications software. (MS-Office 97, Netscape, Outlook). Management of a wireless building network. Management of network systems (cabling, hubs/switches, etc). Experience with applications running on the Pervasive database engine. Experience with network/server backup software (Veritas Backup Exec). Experience with network resource management software (Blue Ocean Track-It, Crystal Reports). Experience with NRC corporate applications required (SIGMA).

Assessment Criteria
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies
Knowledge of desktop personal computers including hardware and software. Knowledge of operating systems and support software for PC (Windows 95/98/NT4.0/2000). Knowledge of different network protocols such as TCP/IP, IPX/SPX. Knowledge of Windows NT Server 4.0 and Windows 2000. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as organizational and time management skills are essential. An ability to instruct staff in the use of personal computers, operating systems and NRC corporate applications. An ability to quickly diagnose the source of difficulties encountered by staff in the use of desktop systems and the network and to undertake corrective actions. An ability to use initiative in establishing priorities and resolving problems when working under pressure.

Relocation
Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with NRC's relocation policy.

Salary Range
From $50,318 to $61,538 per annum, plus a terminable allowance of $176 per month. The terminable allowance is in effect until such time as a new collective agreement for the bargaining unit is signed.

Your Challenge
Under the general direction of the Head ? Architecture, Projects and Standards, the Technology Architect develops technical architectures, frameworks and strategies, either for the overall organization or for a major application area, to meet CISTI's mandate and business objectives using appropriate integration of proper technology. The major responsibilities of the positions are:

1. Manage CISTI's systems/applications architecture including the planning, development, maintenance, documentation and implementation to meet CISTI's mandate.
2. Develop, implement, maintain and evolve elements of the CISTI Information and Technology Architecture (CITA)
3. Participate on CISTI projects as a member of CISTI's Architecture team
4. Participate in CISTI's planning and major decision making related to architecture.
5. Manage and control approved projects.
6. Arrange for contract services.
7. Keep up to date with current trends in technology

A university degree in Computer Science, software engineering or electrical engineering or other related field, or equivalent combination of education and direct experience and training in IT/IS development, operation and management .

Experience
Minimum 6 years of experience in IT/IS field of which a minimum 2 years of experience in analyzing technology infrastructure, support requirements, technology planning, and implementing technology upgrades. Several years of successful experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of information systems and infrastructure. Experience in managing project teams and consultants.

Knowledge of CISTI's organization, products, technologies and development processes; Knowledge of CISTI's business practices, planning cycles and decision making processes; Knowledge of computer database concepts; Knowledge of business/systems analysis and development methodologies; Project management methodologies; Contracting procedures; Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the current status and trends of technologies and products in the industry in general and CISTI needs in these areas in particular; In depth knowledge of Technology Architecture concept and process of developing, maintaining as well as enforcing and evolving such architecture; Comprehensive and in depth knowledge and/or experience with major operating systems, including hardware and software; Detailed knowledge of information security .

business understanding; organizational and environmental awareness.

Relocation
Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with NRC's relocation policy.

Salary Range
From $60,438 to $73,946 per annum plus a bilingual bonus of $800 per annum if the position is designated bilingual. In addition, as an employee belonging to the CS bargaining unit, you will be entitled to receive a terminable allowance. This allowance is paid on a monthly basis and in order to receive this allowance, an employee must receive at least ten (10) days pay in the previous month. The amount of this allowance for your group and level is $212 per month until the signature of the new collective agreement for the NRC CS group. This allowance does not form part of pay except for pension purposes.
