Working together, Algonquin College and the Students’ Association are pleased to announce two initiatives aimed at helping staff and students cope with the effect of the current transit strike.
Ride Sharing
The College community can help those affected by the transit strike by sharing their ride. Effective January 9, the College is launching a “Share a Ride” awareness campaign with the goal of connecting even more of those that “need a ride” with those that can “give a ride”.
Staff and students are encouraged to visit and submit their availability and needs on the Students’ Association ride board. With over 4,000 cars visiting the campus each day the potential for sharing rides is substantial. Those with space in their car are also encouraged to wear an “I can give a ride” button available next Monday at Info Algonquin and other retail outlets across campus. If you see someone wearing a button, ask where they’re going or connect online at Algonquin College, Certificates.
Shuttle Service
Also on January 9, Algonquin will begin offering a free shuttle service. Funded jointly by the College and the Students’ Association the shuttle service will serve the campus from four locations:
Kanata (Hazeldean Shopping Centre) via Bells Corners (Loblaws at Robertson and Moodie), to Algonquin, and then on to the University of Ottawa;
Orleans (Place d’Orleans) via the University of Ottawa;
Bayshore Shopping Centre via Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre; and
South Keys Shopping Centre via Bank & Heron, and the intersection of Prince of Wales Drive and Baseline Road (Carleton University).
The shuttle routes were selected based on the ride sharing demand identified on the Students’ Association ride board. You can find more information about the shuttle service, including details on pickup/drop-off locations and scheduling at Algonquin College, Certificates.
Please keep in mind that weather or traffic may delay shuttle buses, and that shuttle schedules and routes may change. Be sure to check the website regularly for updates. College ID is required.
