Right now, The biggest problem is that the City is fighting to NOT have OC Transpo declared essential. On yesterday's CTV article it was reported that the city's solicitor wrote a letter to the Canada Industrial Relations Board to say that the OC Strike is not a threat to the health and safety of the citizens of Ottawa and therefore OC Transpo should not be made essential.
Ottawa City is concerned about cost. period. According to the labour law, if OCTranspo is made an essential service, the bus drivers salary will have to be paid much better in compensate of losing their rights of strike. That is why Toronto Mayor Dave Miller also opposed to make TTC an esstiencial servcie.
