Nortel to cut hundreds of jobs with WiMax unit (CBC)
Scott Wickware, vice-president of the WiMax unit at Nortel, said Friday that the company is unsure exactly how many jobs will have to go, but the number will be "significant" and in the hundreds over the next few months.
"But certainly Ottawa will be one of the more significant sites in that reduction," he added.
As of Friday, about 4,200 people in Ottawa were still employed by Nortel.
The company held an information session Friday morning for the affected workers.
As the company is currently in bankruptcy protection, those employees will not receive severance pay or benefits.
