passport expiry date is Sept. 3rd. We are back to Canada on Aug 28th, just a few days before the expiry date. Is it ok? Do we have to renew the passport before we leave? thanks

i think it is ok. even though you are coming back after sep 3rd. you may bring your citizenship card with you for more security.

if I am correct, your travel date should be six month early than the date your passport expiry. it is better to renew your passport before you leave on the safe side.

Just in case the air plane delayes or other unforseen problem occurs. never know what will be happening when you travel.

If you are traveling directly to Canada (not via the U.S.), it doesn't matter if your passport is going to expire in a few days as long as your travel is made during the validity period of your passport. Only a few countries including the U.S. has the requirement that your travel document must have 6+ month validity period at the time you travel. But if you wish to renew your passport in China, there's a regulation saying that you need to file the application 15 days before the expiry date (it seems that this regulation does not apply if you are applying from the Chinese Embassy here). And it usually takes 2 or 3 weeks before you can get your passport back. But, of course, it costs less (almost half) to renew your passport in a local public security bereau in China than here in the Chinese Embassy.

Right! I experienced the same thing. The passport should be renewed before you leave.
