Yes, you need license. at least business license and insurance. Otherwise I wouldn't hire you. Because if you get hurt on the job, I would be the one to cover it.

如果请人到家里来做装修，要看他的执照吗，还是他会主动给你看？

You should ask and make sure he has insurance. Otherwise it would be like you ask a friend to help you do something. If he gets hurt it is your home insurace cover the cost. He could sue you for it.

请问你说的business license是专门针对建筑行业的还是对所有生意的?另外是不是不同的工种有不同的license？比如说水管工就有水管工的license，电工就有电工的license，还是说只要拿到一个license就可以干所有的装修活。 如果活干的不好，是不是消费者可以向某个部门投诉？

据我所知，水管工有水管工的license，电工有电工的license。我的一个朋友考下了电工执照。当然要是给自家干，象这个坛子里的诸位一样，就不要任何执照。

What you try to do? If you try to get into the trade, Algonquin college is a good start. You at least need to know the building code and legal rules here. Otherwise you may get yourself into trouble.

我的朋友在魁省做装修20多年，现在搬到gatineau， 想在Ottawa承接一些装修业务，但是不太了解Ottawa的规则，所以问问。估计是不会重新进入学校学习的。而且听说Ottawa的建筑工人对魁省的人有排外情绪，是真的吗？

not a problem. many ottawa job were done by companys across the river.

some people don't like worker from Quebec is for some reason ontario let quebec worker to work here but quebec don't let ontario worker go cross the river.
