Toyota RAV4 base 2009 model for 30k, is it a good deal?

I was think of buying RAV-4, but now I would much prefer Venza! Different generation vehicle!

Venza is in the first year, you cannot get much more reviews. RAV4 2009 model is the lastest one in its third generation since 1996, and very stable and reliable. just like Operation System(OS), it is better not use the lastest one such as Vista.

if you check the plants to make RAV4, only 1 in Canada (starting in 2009), the others are all in Japan. I bought my RAV4 2009 last September (it may be the first one in Ottawa because I asked the dealer to order one and waited 3 weeks to deliver here) and it was 100% made in Japan (老华侨 got mad!!!, i didn't visit his dealer :) just kidding)

Venza appears much better, but

Last week we saw Venza while we wanted to test drive the RAV4, Venza looks like a small version of Lexus RX350, but much cheaper, very delicated and luxury. Suddently we decide to buy a Venza, currently the only concern is that it's only 3 months old, we don't know the hidden problems. It's a little bit risky to buy know, we probably want to wait for at least several months!

I'm sure RAV-4 is a very reliable compact SUV. That's why I was considering it. I was comparing RAV-4 and CRV. CRV is a lead in terms of performance and styling. The tail gate is also much more convenient on CRV. ...... until I saw Venza in the show room, the RAV-4 sitting next to it looked so dated. I did a test drive of Venza, performace & handling were not excellant, but still decent. Interior is very refreshing and comfortable, no longer traditional TOYOTA, but more towards Lexus.
Pro. - Decent price with 4 wheels drive
- Dual moon light
- Nice interior material & design, especially the dashboard
- Big and more usable trunk
- 8" road clearence
- backup camera, digital compas...

No affence to the owner of RAV-4, the only advantage of RAV-4 is the higher sitting position. Other than that, it is dated.

At this price, I would definitely go for a Volkswagen Tiguan Trendline instead.

Very nice analysis. I am also considering to choose either RAV-4 or Venza. My concern with Venza is its big wheel (see What's the advantage of opting for bigger wheels on the Toyota Venza? - Ask.cars.com) and the first year model.
