卑诗大学针对移民就业问题的一项研究发现，与拥有白人姓氏的应聘者比较起来，少数族裔，比如华裔、印裔或非裔等求职者所获面试的机会要少四成，主要因为不少公司或企业的雇主存在潜意识的姓名歧视而“以名取人”，使用诸如Jill Wilson或John Martin名字者获得面试通知的机会，比Sana Khan或Lei Li多40%；雇主看到诸如Li、Khan 等姓氏申请者就予以排除，令其失去面试机会，也可能成为新移民来加后找不到合适工作、其失业率大大高于本地人士的原因之一。

卑诗大学的研究人员做过试验，将内容完全相同但名字不同的履历，分别寄给不同雇主以测试其反应；并根据大多区20个行业雇主的聘用要求，模拟制作了6,000份履历表寄出。结果发现，在教育程度及工作经验相同的情况下，有白人姓名的求职者获得面试的机会有16%，但姓名属于华裔、印裔或中东裔等的求职者获得面试的机会只有11%，如果工作经验及学历均来自海外，姓名又是非白人，获得面试的机会仅5%。

I don't see any relationship between the two points you quoted from what one of your customers said to you and I am not sure what you're trying to tell us. But I guess you're trying to say that he/she was wrong about whether or not there is bias or descrimination in Canada. If so, I would agree with you. There certainly is bias or descrimination in Canada, actually everywhere. So what? It is only a question of more or less.

In fact, the Chinese are among the worst in this respect. The people in cities look down the peasants. We call black people "Hei Gui" and Indian people "A Cha"......

With respect to the probability of getting interview, the report you quoted did not surprise me. I once hired quite a few people and the majority of those being hired were Chinese. I did this for two reasons: A) Everytime when I saw a resume of Chinese, I felt closer to the candidate. B) I was trying to help those new immigrants from China. I certainly showed bias/descrimination. So what? Take a look at the R&D Department of some high tech companies in Kanata. A large percentage are Chinese.

We left China, came to Canada and became a Canadian. We should adapt ourselves to the society here. Don't complain too much! Rather, we should appreciate what we are enjoying here and try to love this piece of land! Canada is one of the best countries in the world in many aspects.

Appreciate your positive attitude toward canada. this country has some things for good than our home country, such as basic human rights(just basic! if you confront with a local white, you won't be treated as a human being yet) etc. however, I cannot appreciate you called this country"the best". acutally, it is far from "the best". as new immigrants, we all have some experiences which might be similar somehow. discrimination, marginization or isolation both in employment and promotion. supposing, when you compete a job with a white, everybody knows what will happen next!? if a local white employee made a mistake, most will think it's not big deal, bla bla.... but, if it was done by a new immigrant employee no matter he/she is chinese or indian or african, it would cause huge attention and of course, things would be worse....oh al, my opinion, the good way is to keep both in your mind, and look at bright side always, so you wont be disppointed when you got discriminated, you won't be forgetting your preliminary experiences you had in your "preliminary pharse".

this is certainly exaggerated. i confronted with a couple of local white colleagues before, but we became friends later. i do not mean, however, there is no discrimination or bias in Canada. as said earlier, there is dicrimination/bias everywhere. it is just a question of more or less. do you know any country where there is no discrimination?

I said "Canada is one of the best countries in many aspects", which is very much different from what you interpreted. If you still do not see the difference between the two sentences, please ask some of your friends or colleagues for their opinion.

that's just your personal opinion which cannot apply to everybody, ok? that's why discrimination and isolation are so popular in canada, because white canadian always heard they are THE BEST, yeah....white canadain must ask themselves :"though we've done this to minorities, they are still calling us THE BEST, why stop doing it? hehehe, keep going!!!!"

so please, never call THE BEST COUNTRY IN THIS WORLD, there is no country can be the best! have you ever been switzerland and sweden yet?

to be honest, i have the job much better more than average immigrants, i remember this country gave me something i couldn't expect from china, but i cannot forget the humiliation i had and ignore the new ongoing discrimination, also, i cannot ignore so many high skilled new immigrants are still struggling for survial by doing sweeping floor and cleaning toilets in toronto...while some white still complain there: we need nurses, we need engineers, we need....help! help! help canada!

其实我们可以问一下刚从国内来的新移民， 所感受到的歧视是来自国人同胞中所谓的老移民的多，还是来自本地人的多。
