Unmarked police cruiser, car collide
Last Updated: Thursday, June 4, 2009 | 4:45 PM ET
CBC News
A woman is in serious condition after her car and an unmarked police cruiser collided in Ottawa's west end.
Police said the woman pulled her car out in front of the cruiser near Carling Avenue and Crystal Beach Drive Wednesday morning.
The cruiser slammed into the driver's side of the woman's car and the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries, said police.
Carling Avenue was closed for several hours, but has since re-opened.
Police said the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU), a civilian agency that conducts investigations into the circumstances of serious injuries or deaths involving police, is not being called in because the incident wasn't serious enough to warrant an investigation.
