EDMONTON - A young mother and her two-year-old daughter survived a 40-metre fall down an almost vertical ravine nearly unscathed.
The mom was uninjured, said a fire official, and the child escaped with minor cuts.
Firefighters scooped the pair out of the Blackmud Creek ravine near 18 Avenue and 113 Street around 6:45 p.m. yesterday.
A fire official described the bank as "nearly 90 degrees."
It's not known how the mom and tot fell down the bank.
"We came and they were just sitting at the bottom of the ravine," he said.
No witnesses came forward at the scene. The area is lined with walking paths.
The toddler was strapped to a child-sized backboard and pulled out of the ravine by firefighters.
The mother was seen walking around, but was later strapped to a backboard.
She was overheard saying "I just want to see my baby."
Both were taken to hospital for examination, said the fire official.
