1/2 hp vs. 3/4 hp Garage door opener

Hi,

We have only one door for the double size garage. I thought we should use 3/4 hp garage door opener. however, I heard from the contractor that 1/2 hp is strong enough for the door. Does anybody use 1/2 hp for the one door on a double size garage? Thanks.

True, the 1/2 horsepower one is good enough for a single-door double garage. I have installed a number of garage door openers like that. Any there was no issues at all.

I use 1/2 hp for the one door on a double size garage too. It is strong enough.
