【明報專訊】一名年輕的華裔男子昨晨在401公路上遭遇飛來橫禍﹐一個甩脫的小貨車輪胎從天而降﹐將該男子汽車的擋風玻璃完全砸碎﹐車頂也被砸得下陷﹐奇蹟地，他居然毫髮無損。

而且由於他的冷靜及駕駛技術﹐在如此突發性危險關頭﹐仍能操控汽車﹐慢駛及停到公路的路肩﹐不致在公路上釀成更大的車禍。

這名姓名李的幸運兒叫John Lee﹐昨日他在事發後接受媒體採訪時表示﹕「我感到十分幸運﹐現在還活覑。」
李先生昨晨早6時﹐和往常一樣駕駛覑他的豐田汽車﹐沿401公路西行去上班。行至近阿梵奴路(Avenue Road)附近時﹐一輛在對面東行線上的開篷小貨車的後輪胎突然甩脫出來。

這個大輪胎於是在401公路東行線彈跳起來﹐飛過分隔東西行車線的石欄﹐砸到正在西行線上的李先生的車頭﹐導致擋風玻璃被砸得粉碎﹐車頂也被砸得變形。

雖然面對如此令每個司機都膽戰心驚的局面﹐李先生十分鎮定﹐他仍然操控覑汽車﹐慢慢減速﹐最後安全停在401公路路肩上。

省警最後找到了那輛肇事的開篷小貨車﹐並將對小貨車所屬的公司提出一項「輪胎脫落(wheel dislodge)」的控罪﹐這並非刑事控罪﹐而屬於違反交通法規。

華青逃出鬼門關即上班

李先生在處理完車禍後﹐仍然前去上班。當記者問他﹐是否覺得幸運得應該去買彩票時﹐他說﹕「我想是的﹐但是我的運氣可能都在剛才的意外中用光了。」

Car Hit By Flying Tire On 401 - CityNews

A driver escaped a frightening ordeal on the 401 Thursday morning with only a sore shoulder.

John Lee's typical morning commute in the westbound collector lanes became anything but around 6am. That's when a Ford Escape heading east had a slight problem.

A tire flew off the vehicle, crossing into oncoming traffic and slamming into the windshield of Lee's car.

The damage to the vehicle was extensive – but Lee was incredibly lucky.

“The tire just came flying at me,” he told CityNews.

“I saw it coming and I didn’t want to swerve and smash into another car and have a big car pile-up. So I just slowed down and moved over.”
The company that owns the Escape is now facing charges.

Update: Company charged after tire flies off truck, hits car

ONTARIO - Charges have been laid against a company after a tire flew off one of its trucks and into the windshield of a car on Highway 401 this morning.

The pickup truck was going east in the express lanes near Yonge St. about 6 a.m., when the rear driver's side tire detached, said Const. Tim Lamont. Unaware the wheel had been lost, the driver continued until he saw sparks flying. About 400 metres earlier, the wheel had bounced over the centre median of the highway, into the windshield of a westbound car.

Police arrived on the scene to find the car that was hit by the tire severely damaged with the hood smashed in and the windshield shattered, said Lamont.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

"I was extremely surprised based on the amount of damage to the vehicle and location of the damage that the driver only sustained a sore right shoulder," said Lamont.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Police will not identify the company that owns the truck, now charged under the Highway Traffic Act for the wheel detachment.

In July, a 54-year-old Simcoe man was struck and killed after a piece of scrap metal flew through his windshield on the Queen Elizabeth Way.

Investigators determined the projectile was not part of a vehicle and may have fallen off a truck carrying scrap metal.
