(Control Your Fate,The Message Can Wait),如有违反交通新法者,将接到155元的罚单。

So, how did drivers in the city of Toronto do one week into the new 'hands-free' law? As well as buckling up!

On February 1st, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) launched a one-week enforcement campaign called, "Control Your Fate, The Message Can Wait".

The campaign was implemented to support Ontario's new distracted driving legislation (Bill 188) designed to curb dangerous activities associated with drivers who use cellphones and other hand-held communications and entertainment devices while driving.

During the 7-day program which ended on February 7th, the TPS issued:

- 95 charges for a Display Screen Visible to the Driver,
- 1,321 charges for Hand Held Communication Device,
- 83 charges for Hand Held Entertainment Device.

And a further:

- 157 charges laid for Careless Driving,
- 3,799 charges laid for other distraction-related hazardous driver offences.

According to TPS Constable Wendy Drummond, these numbers indicate a higher level of compliance than for seatbelt laws which have been in existence for over 35 years.

Mike

Anyone caught breaking the law will be slapped with a $155 fine.

But if a driver challenges that ticket in court the judge has the discretion to knock it down to as low as $60 or boost it to up to $500.
