ALBERTA - A four-year-old boy was killed Wednesday in Grande Cache after police say his grandfather backed over him in a driveway.
The boy and his grandfather stopped at the grandfather's house to grab something shortly before 11 a.m. and both got out of the pickup.
"The grandfather got back in and thought that the boy was in the vehicle, and proceeded to back out of the driveway," Grande Cache RCMP Const. George Ferraby said.
Suffering from severe head injuries, the boy was driven by ambulance to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"It's a very unfortunate incident, very traumatic for everyone involved," Ferraby said. "We don't expect charges to come from this."
RCMP do not anticipate releasing the names of those involved.
"We're a tight-knit community up here and the whole community's in shock," Ferraby said.
