Comment 1 - It's going to be a fun meeting
Marianne (on behalf of Kanata Lakes Associations) lost the battle to KNL a few years back (That's why we see new communities like Kanata Estates and Kizell Pond...). If you are waiting Urbandale and Richcraft to build new houses in Kanata Lakes, you should go; if you hate them building new houses in your established neighborhood, you also should go; otherwise, just for fun and if you have time, you should go...
Comment 2 - A lot of people on this forum purchased houses at Phoneix's new Heritage Hills site. It might be a good idea to hijack Marianne's meeting for 5 minutes to bring your concerns (delay etc)...
Beaver Pond Lands Meeting, Mlacak Centre, Thursday, July 15th, 7 p.m.
I encourage you attend a public meeting regarding the lands north of
the Beaver Pond this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Mlacak Centre (2500
Campeau Dr.) in the Upper Halls. City staff and the developer's
representatives will be on hand to answer your questions. This meeting
comes after my request was approved as modified by the Planning and
Environment Committee to hold a community consultation before
Urbandale starts their development. It's unfortunate this meeting has
had little advanced notice, but there was an urgent need to move as
fast as possible due to actions planned by KNL Developments. For
instance, I have been informed that they plan on fencing their lands
this week (which is required by the City before any development
begins).
As many of you know, KNL Developments intends to proceed with the next
phase of the Lakeside residential subdivision, as Draft Approved in
February 2006. The portion of the lands zoned for residential use will
be developed with lots for detached dwellings and blocks for freehold
townhouses. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss relevant Draft
Plan Conditions related to tree preservation and general
pre-requisites that need to be met prior to commencing construction.
In my opinion, and in many others' as well, I believe there are still
many conditions that must be met before any work can begin.
Additionally, I've made some progress in securing a woodland
connection from the Beaver Pond's city lands to Trillium Woods through
the development lands. Unfortunately, the City does not have enough
land to trade for the whole area and no one has come forward yet with
funds to purchase them. KNL is still planning to start cutting trees
next Monday (July 19th), and throughout the rest of this week, I will
continue to work with city staff to ensure this does not occur and
that conditions attached to the development are met.
