The current mayor O'Brien did a right thing to cancel the old light rail plan. The problem with that plan is it never went through due diligent process and the former mayor just want it to pass for some conspiracy. Now Bob is coming back at Federal Government level to supervise the money transfer of new light rail. Bad !

As a resident in Barrhaven region, I prefer the current plan that will end the light rail at Baseline. If you think light rail is good for Barrhaven, you should look at Toronto and Montreal, How many good location besides rail track? Your house will lose value for sure.

The guy who is really hated by other officials at City Hall is Alex Cullen. According to Ottawa sun, he is really smart and too smart for others, so he is by himself at most time without alliance. Now he withdrew from the mayoral race, I hope he will return as an independent voice. Good for Ottawa.

Good to know, thanks...

Do we set up our mind to go voting and agree on someone is better than the rest of the candidates?:)

Mayor's debate sparks ideas from top candidates

Ottawa's top mayoral candidates faced off Tuesday in front of 200 members of the city's commercial real estate industry, pushing their own agendas, including limiting council terms and offering a money-back guarantee for residents who experience delays with city services.

Mayor Larry O'Brien says council and mayors should only be allowed to serve two terms in office: "Quite frankly, if you can't get what you want done in eight years, you probably shouldn't be there."

O'Brien added local politicians should be focused on making progress on issues, rather than advancing their political careers.
"I don't think this is part of a career growing process. Municipal politics is about solving problems, getting things done," he said.

Meanwhile, Jim Watson wants the city to become more accountable when it comes to city services, offering a money-back guarantee. He says if residents wait too long, the service should be free.

"If we mess up, we should fess up and not charge you," said Watson.

As for Andy Haydon, he still won't commit a number to property taxes. However, he said he would make cuts if he has to.

"There's more than one way to skin a cat and that's what we'll do. We'll move money around and take care of the things that are really important," Haydon said.

Although Clive Doucet was invited to the debate, he declined the offer. Doucet will announce his platform on taxes and city spending on Thursday.
