Beware of the news reports that minimize this horrible nuclear disaster. I worked as an engineer at a nuclear power plant in the Midwest. Believe me when I say that any large explosion in the reactor building is major disaster and probably indicates the reactor vessel has been breeched and the core is melting. The fact that they are flooding the area with sea water also indicates an ongoing melt down.
The Japanese are fantastic people, but they will always say everything is okay even as the wheels are falling off the cart (I also worked for a Japanese company for 6 years and know this first hand). It will be interesting to see how news of this develops, I certainly hope for the best but it just doesn't look that way to me.
