You are being urged to take part in the darkest hour this weekend.
The City is encouraging residents and businesses to turn out the lights for one hour Saturday evening as part of a call for action on climate change.
Earth Hour will be held in cities around the world between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm.
Ottawa Police say lights directly linked to public safety, including streetlights, hospital lights and at the Elgin Street police headquarters, will stay on during Earth Hour.
Hydro Ottawa recorded a reduction of 6 per cent electricity in 2010, enough to power 58 Ottawa homes for an entire month.
Earth Hour was pioneered by the World Wildlife Fund in 2007.
