Is it the only English private high school in Ottawa ? I'm not sure whether or not it will be good for my son if I pull him out from the public school to Ashbury at Grade 9 and let him finish the high school in Ashbury. Can any one share the experiences or thoughts?

与你住在哪里也有关系吧。

昨天有个帖子刚谈了高中排名。

According to the experience of my friend's son, your son needs to expect that he will be bullied in the first year he switches to Ashbury. If your son is a quiet kid, don't switch. Instead send your son to IB program.

My friend's son has less friend than when he was in public (or Catholic) high school. He wasn't that happy at Ashbury. However, his English is way better than when he was in publich school. There are pros and cons. You have to decide.

Thank you for sharing. I have never thought that the bully exists in Ashbury. I was told Ashbury is a very strict private school; has zero tolerance to any misbehavior, misconducts, drug free......

Do the students there have "the rich altitude" or mean to the new comers?

Drug issues apply to all high schools - private, public or Catholic schools. For private schools, those kids have more pocket money to spend and the issue will be even worse.

School policy might be there, but the teachers can't possibly watch over all the kids 24/7. Private school is no exception for bullying and drugs.

Have you considered Lisgar Collegiate Institute at 29 Lisgar Street?

Lisgar used to be a famous public high school in Ottawa. Many years ago, my former colleague's husband (from Iran) was a substitute teacher at Lisgar. He taught Pure Maths back in Iran's university. He went to many different high schools in Ottawa (private, public and Catholic). After he taught at Lisgar, he told my colleague that they had to sell their house in Kanata and moved to downtown so that their 2 daughters can go to Lisgar. He told his wife that Lisgar was the best school he taught.

His two daughters are all grown up, one went to Queens and one went to UBC. Both are doing pretty good.

Try French immersion. It is the same student composition as Lisgar/private schools. No trailer park white trash.
