Cost of FLooring: Laminate $500 to $1000, Hardwood $800 to $3500
Done by pros: $3 to $5 per square foot =$1000 to 1600
DIY: Material plus rental= $100 to $200
So total:
Laminate: $1500 to $2100 (DIY $600 to $1200)
Hardwood $1800 to $5100 (DIY $900 to $3700)
*I prefer hardwood unless it is the basement. Better resale value and more attractive. You can buy cheaper hardwood from Home Depot or Rona if you look for sales. Ash and Maple are good choices. Actually ask looks like oak and as durable as oak.
