Flag-Raising Ceremony
Join the celebrations of the centennial of Parks Canada, the world’s first national parks service! Starting with the Flag-Raising Ceremony, Canada’s historical and natural treasures will be featured throughout the day, with special programs and activities marking this special anniversary.

A pageantry of marching music and military drills, performed by the Ceremonial Guard.

The Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages invites you to join thousands of Canadians on Parliament Hill to celebrate Canada’s 144th birthday, and to welcome Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The theme for the Noon Show is “Canada: A Proud Past and a Bright Future.”

Pipes and Drums on the Lawns

2:30 pm and 3:30 pm

As a regiment, the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa traces its history back to the formation of the 43rd Battalion of Infantry in October 1866. The main mission of the Pipes and Drums is to provide musical support of regimental and extra-regimental activities.

3 pm and 4 pm

The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada is Canada’s Senior Highland Regiment. Formed in 1862, the Black Watch Pipes and Drums is the oldest organized pipe band in North America, and has, over the years, been consistently ranked among the top bands in the Canadian Forces and North America.

Fireworks

10 pm (approx.)


The best views are from Jacques-Cartier Park and the Canadian Museum of Civilization (both in Gatineau), as well as Major’s Hill Park (in Ottawa) and along the Ottawa River. This thunderous pyrotechnics show soars over the Ottawa River, beginning at 10 pm.
