(1) No person shall construct, relocate, alter, or close a private approach without first obtaining a permit from the City of Ottawa.
(2) A private approach must be a minimum of 2.4 metres wide and a maximum of 9.0 metres and in no case shall the width exceed 50 per cent of the frontage on which the approach is located.
(3)The maintenance and upkeep of a private approach, including any curbs and headwalls is the responsibility of the abutting property owner.
(4) Permits will not be issued for private approaches in order to provide access to a parking space, which is contrary to any City by-law.
(5) The grade of any private approach shall not exceed six per cent.

I saw lots of people have cut and extended their drive on one or both sides, paving the surface with stone-bricks. Does such a "landscaping" project require a city's "private approach" permit?
