Hydro Ottawa ask me to get a free thermostat, has any one have it already? does it save money for you? is it worth to have it or not?

I received this kind of offer already 4 times. Every time the letter says this is the last chance to get this free thing.

I just ignored it.

I just don't like this kind of free offer, just like no free lunch.

I got one from Hydro Ottawa a couple of years ago, didn't find it saved much of money besides $25 rebate, but it might have helped the city save hydro power in some way. Why not. It has a big touch screen, easy to operate, can be controlled remotely online. One of the benefit is that if you forget to hold your thermostat at a certain temperature when you are away, you can control it wherever there is internet access. I used it in the winter when my son was at home and I forgot to hold it at a warmer temperature for him in the morning, so I changed my regular weekday schedule to "Hold" at a comfortable temp from my work computer. I'm not associated with Hydro Ottawa and won't try to convince anyone to get one. Just think how much energy might be saved if we all participate. I hope my personal opinion gave you some good idea how it works and why you might want to consider of getting one.

Thank ekans for providing detailed information. Now I understand how it works.

It seems either the owner of house or outside people are able to remotely control the temperature through online access, it might be good idea to have it.

peaksaver 顾名思义就是在电网PEAK的时候HYDRO 可以通过控制端口把你家的温度调高1到2度，而且你还不能自己调低（当让如果你懂，你可以BYPASS）这样可以降低电网的负载来达到节省的目的。（是省的HYDRO的钱，不时你家的）

I did not get this. Hydro shoud adjust your temprature lower other than higher in the peak hour to avoid more use for the system. why you said it adjust your temprature higher?

I could not get this point as well, save money for Hedro, but us?
what you mean is that we spend more money to halp Hydro Ottawa?

还是SAVE的，那个thermostat很NB的，外面买好象是199.

好的thermostat肯定省钱

装了两个夏天了，从来没注意过有没有被控制。为了少点污染，大家还是green一点吧。

如果你真的想黑掉那个unit, 拆开把天线拔掉就行了。走的是GSM的网络。

因为它控制的是空调，空调温度调高了，空调少工作当然省电了。
因为高峰期的电是从电网买来的，价格也是最贵的时段。你少用它当然省了。（你付的电费是平价的）。政府会做亏本的买卖吗？
