很有幸我在去年赢了四张星期三练球日的入门票, 以下是我用英文作的打油诗以娱大家:(另附相片)
The Masters Chronicle
(aka Watch Wednesday Practice Round at Augusta and Play Golf)
They talk about the tradition
They talk about the perfection
And they talk about the beauty.
What is it that really attracts the fans?
The only way to find out is being there….
T’was spring again
Easter was 2 weeks ago
Entered the draw for Masters tickets
First time online, they said
I would give it a go
Millions would enter
Chances were no better than slim
But lo and behold
Somebody above was looking after me
4 tickets to the Wednesday Practice round
Augusta, here I come!
Moment to ponder, who should I bring?
Didn’t have to think long…
If I went without them,
My regular foursome
My neck they would wring
My regular foursome, 2 puppies and 2 FOMs
That is, 2 working stiffs and 2 retirees
All golf crazy, more so the other three
One has clubs to fill the garage
7 drivers of the same model, one for each day
Practice all winter so called rotary swing
2 responded quickly, one hummed and hawed
Had to talk to his better half he said
The rest of us just said
Put it down on the calendar Honey
The first week of April, I will be down at Augusta
Watching Tiger, Rory and Phil!
2 weeks later, the last guy said yes
Finally convincing his sweetheart
He would come back loving her more
Or maybe diamond or some other precious stone
Would blind her enough not to say no?
Planning the trip was quick
Fly down to Charlotte
Play 5 games in 3 days
Watch the practice round on Wednesday
And walk the sacred grounds
No time for anything else
Just golf or watch Masters, eat and sleep, all in one day!
Come the day before the trip
Back started to hurt
Twas Sunday, no chiro on call
Damn it, I am going come high, hell or water
Even if I have to limp
Up the fairway of the 18th!
Woke up at 3, out of the door at half past
Bumped a ride with a puppy
The flight was uneventful
Got to the golf course at 1
Too bad I wasn’t playing
Weather was balmy but I could only watch
Went to the local chiro
Twisted me back in shape
Massage in the evening
Come morning ready for 36
Miracle of all miracles!
I was able to play
Slightly tender muscles but the back held up
Thankful that I was playing
Score was ignored
Even came out positive,
Dogmeat and 3-putt game we played
The super FOM made our day,
By saying,‘You gonna make me putt this?’
Over a 2 footer
‘I will tell you why’ I said
And promptly he missed
We all bent over with laughter
My sore back was no more
Thanks to you, Mike!
2 hours drive to Augusta, everybody in anticipation
Quizzing with Masters trivia
Soon into Augusta, street lined with signs
We want your tickets!
Could have sold for 800
But come on be real
Money can’t buy happiness
When heaven is in sight
Parked the car and walked up the hill
At 7:30 huge crowd was already forming
Gate to open at 8:30
Time to shop for souvenirs
What! Green Master golf shirts were sold out in my size?
Had to settle for stripes
At least I had a green Masters cap
2 steps onto the sacred grounds and already in awe
Was that real grass or Astroturf
It’s so perfect it looked unreal
And that’s only the sidewalk
No bald spots, not to mention weeds
Went to the driving range and watched the pros swing
When they went to their driver
Their balls soon disappeared
Beyond 250 my eyes couldn’t see
There was Ryo, so young and nimble
Hit the ball a mile not breaking a sweat
Mikey Weir, our Canadian hope
Alone in the far corner
Hitting shot after shot
Relive your past glory, our sincere wish
There was Luke, world’s number 1
Dressed in bright orange
Like telling Brandel Chamblee…
Don’t ignore me! I have as much chance
As Tiger, Rory or Phil!
Saw KJ, Lucas and Zach
Francesco, Mark and Johnson
There was an unknown with a non-pro swing
Turned out to be a 54 year old
Who won the Mid-Amateur
Thrilled to death to be in the mix
But Tiger was not in sight
Finally caught him hitting the ball
Onto the 18th green
Playing with his buddy O’Meara and O’Hair
Seeing Tiger in action
Was already worth the price of admission
Watched KJ tee off with Bae, a young Korean
Smack right down the middle of the fairway
Tipped his cap when we yelled
‘Way to go KJ!’
Sauntered off to the Par 3 grounds
What a beautiful setting!
Holes scattered around 2 ponds
Pros used to skip the ball over the water
And right on the green!
Bought lunch at the concessions
Pigmento Cheese and Egg salad
2 sandwiches and a drink
All less than 5 bucks!
Settled down at the 1st Green of the Par 3
There was Ricky, dressed in lime green
And Trevor with his 2 cute girls
And Coody, an ex-champion
Still hit the ball with deadly accuracy
Wanting to be noticed on TV
I donned on my red Canadian top hat
Some grumpy old man complained
That I was blocking his view!
Started walking the course
Soaking in the sight
If there is heaven on earth, this must be it
Manicured to the ying yang
Not a divot in sight!
Greens were magnificent
Though ne’er a flat spot
Fast and furious
Add a stroke per hole
If we were to putt
Went to sit at the stand at the 4th green
Where on Sunday Phil’s ball hit its railing
Ended up with a triple
And costing him the jacket!
Saw Rory hit a shot on the 7th hole
His ball on the left rough
Hooked the ball around the trees
And almost onto the green!
Went to quench our thirst with a beer
When a distant rumble was heard
Inclement weather warning, they said
Close the shops and concessions
Everybody out!
Walked out of Gate 9
But had to get back at Gate 6
To collect our booties
Waited for hour and half
And rain finally came
We were soaked to our skin
When they handed out umbrellas
Free for our taking
Free souvenir and a happy ending
Despite being cut short
Of our wonderful time in Augusta
Another 36 holes the next day
Flew back the day after
With a dream to come back
Some unfinished business
To walk the entire 18!
