At the University of Ottawa, new students celebrated “Welcome Week” on blankets with their parents. At Carleton University, first-years donned colour-coded T-shirts at the “New Student Convocation.” Senior administrators in academic gowns processed in with a bagpiper and an aboriginal elder.
